After moving to Hong Kong from the UK in 1995, Stuart has become one of the leaders and pioneers in Asia’s outdoor at learning / training education and adventure sport industries. Explorer, corporate facilitator, adventure athlete, film-maker, and entrepreneur, Stuart has followed his passion and helped build APA Group together with friend and teammate Ryan S. Blair.
Originally from the West Coast of the United States, Ryan has developed a career in Asia specializing in outdoor education, skills training, and adventure sport event & athlete management. Ryan returned to Hong Kong in 2002 to establish a partnership and found Asia Pacific Adventure with friend and former colleague, Stuart Sharpless.
Peter F. Darley is a world-class facilitator and former international hockey player and coach, bringing the spirit of high performance, teamwork and resilience to APA Gap Programs. Through diverse experiences presenting in global corporate boardrooms and competing in World Cup finals, Peter has learnt to create empowering environments where people can develop confidence, collaborate effectively, and prepare to make a meaningful mark on the world.
Born and raised in Hong Kong to mixed-race parents, Zanskar Blair has always had a deep-rooted love for Asia and it's diverse cultures. His passion for the outdoors and high-energy pursuits has shaped his life and career. As the Manager of APA’s Open Enrolment Division, Zanskar oversees all holiday season programs under Camp APA, private programs, events, and APA’s latest initiative, APA Gap Programs. He is a firm believer in the transformative power of experiential learning, whether through outdoor adventures or immersive cultural activities.
Born and raised in Cebu, Philippines, Al Nino (or “Nino,” as his friends know him) has spent over 15 years in the outdoor industry, where his passion for adventure and easy-going nature have made him a highly respected facilitator and manager. Today, Nino heads up Safety and Trainings for APA, where his leadership ensures that every program runs with the highest safety standards, empowering both staff and participants to thrive in the outdoors. He’s passionate about fostering an environment where learning and adventure go hand in hand, and he looks forward to supporting more incredible journeys.
Born and raised in South Africa, Melissa has had a love for the outdoors her whole life. It all started when she would go on remote camping expeditions all throughout Africa with her family. She has experience in corporate team building for over 10 years and has a passion to see people reach their full potential. Melissa joined APA in 2016 as a freelance facilitator on youth and adult programs. In 2017, she became a full-time member of the team and is our Senior Program Manager for APA’s Youth Division working all over South East Asia.
Born and raised on one of Cebu’s stunning islands in the Philippines, Francis Gitz Cañete (or Gitz, as he’s known) grew up surrounded by the sea, which sparked a lifelong love for water and adventure. Starting his career as a PADI Dive Master and BSAC Open Water Instructor, Gitz found joy in exploring the ocean and sharing its wonders with others. In addition to his outdoor expertise, Gitz is a registered nurse and a certified delivery instructor for Austere & Emergency Medicine International, an organization dedicated to providing high-quality medical, paramedical, and first aid education. His commitment to safety and education underpins his work, ensuring that every adventure is both memorable and meaningful.
Originally from Baroy, Lanao del Norte in the southern Philippines, Michael "Micmic" Yu’s love for the outdoors began during his university years, where he discovered his passion for teaching and adventure. In September 2009, Micmic joined the Asia Pacific Adventure (APA) team as an Outdoor Facilitator, bringing his energy, skills, and passion to the programs. For Micmic, every day is an opportunity to inspire others to explore and grow in the great outdoors. Whether he’s leading an adventure or managing the logistical side of operations, he is always focused on providing a memorable, safe, and impactful experience for all.
Growing up in the vibrant city of Hong Kong has given Sharen a deep appreciation for the natural world, and you can often find her “scrambling” over rocks and through the woods in her spare time. To her, the outdoors isn’t just a hobby—it’s a way of life that constantly inspires her to live authentically and encourages others to do the same. As the Client Relationship Officer for APA’s Open Enrolment Division, she thrives on connecting with new clients, helping them find the perfect outdoor experiences, and ensuring they have a seamless and enriching journey with us.
